TO: THE MEMBERS OF DOG COMPANY, 2/16TH INF, 1ST DIV
FROM: General Dwight D. Eisenhower
Gentlemen,
It is an honor and a privilege
to commend you on your victory in the SHAEF baseball tournament. The outstanding fielding of PFC Marchand and T4 Kilian helped
to show what fantastic athletes our American boys are. It is my understanding that your team captain, Lt. Mullen, was taken
ill and you were led to victory but the exemplary leadership of your platoon sergeant, Sgt. Rory Bialecki. This is proof of
the quality of leadership among the whole of our fighting forces. The spectacular defenses by Pvt. Welch and PFC. Krebb at
home plate and first base, is the hallmark to the fighting spirit by which we endeavor to continue our struggle and hold onto
the pillars of freedom. While the sacrifice fly by Cpl. Michalski to bring Pvt. Knighton home to score the winning run, shines
as a reminder to us that we will sacrifice what we must to obtain total victory. Again Gentlemen, congratulations on you victory.
I wish you Good Luck and God-Speed.
Sincerely,
General Dwight D. Eisenhower
Supreme Commander
Allied Expeditionary Force
